Smoking
I have to say something about smokers, specifically women who smoke. Today I saw this woman behind me, and she was smoking. I couldn’t see much of her because the sun was so bright, but she had a good shaped hand (holding the cigarette) and she was playing with her hair with the other hand. She was making a double colossal mistake by smoking in her car. First of all, she was ruining the market value of her car, which is stupid enough, but she was also ruining the market value of herself.
Of course I’m not single anymore, but back when I was, whenever I saw a woman smoking it was an instant deal breaker. I may have been on the approach, but as soon as the girl pulled out a cigarette I turned away, and I also wouldn’t even look at her again. It’s just so thoroughly repellant. That’s right, for some guys, a woman smoking is as much of a shield as from the opposite gender as a burka.
If you are a woman who smokes, or who is considering taking it up, then keep in mind it doesn’t matter how much effort you put into making your nails and hair look good, because the smoking is going to decimate the rest of your body. A 78 year old woman can have good hair and nails with the proper treatments, but there isn’t much that can be done to restore the skin or body tissues to optimal condition. Same goes for smoking, which is clinically proven to accelerate the aging process. I mean, if the potential for lung cancer, mouth cancer, and throat cancer isn’t enough of a deterrant, then the decimated looks should be.
For the life of me I do not and cannot understand it. Use some brains.
“Oh, but drinking soda’s and eating fast food is also real bad for you, and I don’t do that.”
Really? That’s like saying that a gunshot to the face isn’t so bad because a knife wound to the arm also does damage. Use some brains.
“But people in my family live long, and my grandmother lived to be 92 and she smoked.”
OK, but that does no exempt you from accelerated aging and the possibility of cancer. Maybe your grandmother would have lived to be 120 without smoking, and looked like she was 30 at 50. The fact is, when you smoke you inhale a burning toxic cloud. Stop being stupid.
I for one am glad that smoking is banned in most buildings and public places. It’s a hazard to everyone else that’s around. I have allergies, so when I’m around that crap I start coughing an sneezing, and if I’m stuck in a contained space with it over a long time then my nose goes into overtime on snot production, and it runs out both ends. If I have to pass close to a smoker I cough and choke, and don’t bother to hide it. That stuff is toxic.
Also, I wouldn’t let my kids date smokers. I don’t want to hear any liberal bullcrap about self actualization and freedom for kids. Freedom is for people who can take care of themselves and pay their own way. If you’re a kid you don’t have the same kind of freedom that an adult does. You live under my roof, you obey my rules. Don’t like it? Then you better get your own roof, then you can make your own rules.
I don’t now how people get started smoking. My guess is that they start in their teens, and they do it because they think it looks “cool.” Well news flash, no it doesn’t. When I see a teenage kid smoking I think “look at that idiot kid destroying his (or her) body because he thinks it’s cool.” No you don’t look cool, and no you don’t look grown up to a grown up. I didn’t think those idiots looked cool when I was in my teens either. I still thought they just looked like idiots.

2 reasons that i can think of why people begin smoking. 1. their parents smoke 2. peer pressure. its the same for drinking. its the same for eating unhealthy. its the same for everything! parents are #1 role model and your relationship with your child will determine how dearly they hold to their peers opinions.–karen
i am so glad smoking is banned almost everywere we go..that is such a positive thing that could happen in our society..i’ve noticed once, a women quitting smoking and after only two weeks, the skin in her face looked radient compared to the grey skin she had before…i’m glad i stop smoking 15 years ago…
I’m grateful for the smoking ban in Colorado. I’ve never smoked and neither have my parents or any of my siblings, but most of my extended family has at one point or another. I’ve dated men who smoke, some who tried to hide it, but I didn’t care, as long as they didn’t expect me to take up smoking.
While you have a problem with it, other guys don’t mind it if the girl smoked, so don’t worry about her market value, as you described it. Plus, second-hand smoking proved to be worse. As in, her health is not going to get as bad as you think it would. Even if that were the case, she, like many other smokers, probably doesn’t care about having a long life, in the first place. Btw, doing cardio on a regular basis and having a good healthy diet with a sufficient amount of water is what’s going to help a person have a strong immune system, and therefore have a less of an issue with passing by some cigarette-smoke for a minute or two. A great help regarding allergies, too. One more thing: she probably doesn’t even plan on selling that car of hers any time soon. Even if she did, the person who’s going to end-up buying it probably wouldn’t care because it’s an easy fix. Having said all that, it is good that smoking in closed-areas is prohibited in many cities, nowadays. Have a great weekend.
I found over the years that people who smoke do so because they have some sort of deep emotional problem.Smoking is like cutting or other self destructive compulsion.
Completely agree with you. I remember so many girls in college who smoke, partied, tanned, and drank regularly. 1.5 years after I’ve graduated, and I’d bet their aging process has already accelerated. Also, anyone with a professional job is going to have a hard time taking smoke breaks. I wish teenagers were told this. Most of my jobs haven’t even let someone smoke on the entire property of the company. The first guy I ever made out with was a chain-smoker. That was 10 years ago, and I can still remember how disgusting he was. The repulsion factor is infinitely worse when they’re up close.
Amen. Anyone who smokes anything, I lose a small amount of respect for them. That may be harsh, but there are plenty of other (healthy) habits that can be taken in to consideration.
@lifeontheWink - Oh yea, I didn’t think to mention parents, but it makes sense that that would be a major factor. If the parents model bad behavior the kids will almost certainly partake in it.
@locomotiv - It really makes a huge difference. If you don’t mind my asking, what was it that caused you to start and what made you decide to stop?
@Mansonschicks - What kind of ban is it?
@nov_way - No this is the US. Smoking will hurt her prospects here. She will still be able to get some guys, but they will also be smokers, and of course the one night stand sort of guys who just shag a woman and are gone the next day. I don’t know how it’s going to work for a smoker to be married to a non-smoker. Especially if it’s the woman who smokes and the man doesn’t. That’s a huge liability for a spouse, and for medical insurance. But yes, she probably doesn’t care about her health or living for a long time, and in fact she probably doesn’t think about it at all.
@ImNotUglyIJustNeedLove - Interesting, and not at all surprising.
@Facetiouseloquence - Oh yes, that’s punishing the skin. It seems like a lot of people are only capable of thinking about the present. Whatever feels good to them they just do, and don’t think about the long term consequences. It’s the sort of mentality that makes it easier for the government to get away with so much of the crap it’s getting away with. Sounds absolutely revolting. Back when I was in high school there were two smoker girls who had crushes on me. Both were quite ugly. One of them was a heavy smoker and I couldn’t even be close to her in class without experiencing severe allergy attacks. Sometimes all she had to do was get close to me to set off a sneeze fit. I moved away from her a few times and she followed me. Ug. Then there was the other girl, and she also smelled nasty, but poor hygiene may have contributed to that.
@StarrxStruck - It’s not harsh, it’s perfectly reasonable.
@Ambrosius_Augustus_Rex – no smoking inside public buildings, including restaurants, shops, and government buildings. And casinos as well.
@Mansonschicks - That’s good. I’m not really sure what our rules are here, but in most buildings people aren’t allowed to smoke. I think banning in public buildings and restaurants is across the country. What about the clubs there?
@Ambrosius_Augustus_Rex – no. No smoking at all in businesses off any kind. And they have to be a minimum of 15 feet from any doors. But, I think less people smoke in Colorado anyway, as a general rule. Maybe it’s just my perception and the people I associate with, though.
i dont remember my first cigarette..but i was 18 and smoking..a reason i can think of for starting smoking is that we copy others…it could also be a question of low self-esteem..i quitted because it was no longer tolarated in the house i was living in..but previous to that i remember slowing down, because i knew it diminished the quality of my life…smoking is not easy to stop, because it controls a person’s entire life…
@locomotiv -Thanks for sharing. I have heard that it’s very hard for a lot of people to stop, which is one of the reasons why it’s good to never start in the first place.
You know it’s funny but I was asmoker for a decade (honestly I’m still a social smoker) but I have never dated another smoker. All my friends were smokers, I picked up the habit in Europe as a teen when everyone and everyithng smoked, but I always kept it down to a minimum by dating non-smokers. I couldn’t smoke inside their apartments or mine or in restaurants or public spaces. I kept my smoking habit to 5-10 per day for 10 years.
I’m often puzzled, and usually a little disappointed, by the way middle America views relationships. Using expressions like “market value of herself”, and “deal breaker”, it’s as if they’re talking about some kind of commercial transaction, like buying a vacuum cleaner. Maybe that’s why they do so much trading in, trading up, and comparison shopping.
@somewittyhandle - Men and women objectify one another continually, but in different ways. Men are concerned primarily with the age and physical attractiveness of a woman (youth and beauty), while women are concerned primarily about the income and social status of the man. It’s not just “middle America” but the entire world.
@Amandascowen - Wow. You’re lucky you didn’t get mouth or lung cancer.
Fantastic work guys im a fan of your website.mentholeliquid
