  • Yahoo’s “Advice” to the Republicans

I recently saw an article on Yahoo where they attempted to give “advice” to the Republicans to make them more marketable.  I immediately assumed that the “advice” would be some form of gloating or sabotauge because Yahoo hates the Republicans, but I was curious so I checked it out.  The writer was a Yahoo user from one of their comment boards, and Yahoo prefaced the article by saying that this view was indicative of a larger movement.

The writer said that the Republicans could make themselves more marketable by embracing evolution and global warming in their party platform.  But is that really the case?

    Evolutionism:

It is an error to assume that there are not evolutionists or atheists in the Republican party.  It’s just a stereotype that all Republicans are Christians.  They are not even all pro-life or conservative.  The candidates in local elections and House elections are going to come from the communities they represent, which means that, in theory, their world view is going to line up with their constituency.

As far as I know, the Democrats themselves have not made belief in evolution a part of their party platform.  Why this guy would want the Republicans to do something which the Democrats themselves have not done is beyond me, unless the intent is not to actually help the Republicans.  In fact, the Democrats have recently put God back into their platform, against the wishes of most of the party because they felt it would get them more votes.  That being said, if the Republicans officially put evolution into their platform it would be seen by Christian conservatives as a slap in the face.  Making an official ideological break with their largest consistent voting bloc would cost some votes.

Of course, I would probably still vote for them because I hate the Democrat party more than anything.  To me economics and personal freedom are more of an issue than any claims about religious affiliation.  Romney does not belong to my religion, but I still voted for him because the alternative was much worse.  I would also have voted for Romney if he were an atheist.  I would vote for a Republican candidate of any religion (except for Islam) in order to keep the Democrat candidate out.  If by some strange freak of nature chance the Republicans put a Muslim up running against the Democrat, I would either do a write in vote for someone or I would vote the Democrat (so long as he was not a Muslim).

Most conservatives in the US are not party loyalists,  We vote the way we vote for survival purposes, because voting for the smaller of two piles of crap involves less shoveling for us later on.

    Global Warming:

I would have difficulty voting for any candidate who espouses Global Warming as if it were a scientific fact.  One of the reasons we vote Republican is to save us from the Global Warming crowd.  I do not believe in Global Warming.  Of course, I don’t believe in evolution either, but Global Warming strikes me as nothing more than an attempt to penalize 1st world countries, raise taxes, and drive more production overseas.

It is very telling how the majority of people who support GW are also globalists and socialists.  Globalists are known for their disdain of western civilization and national sovereignty, which is why they can be seen pushing for the UN to regulate our country.  They also don’t like the fact that one country outshines others, just as they hate the fact that some individuals achieve more than others.  They hate achievment, and want to penalize the individual who achieves more, and similarly they wish to do the same with the country that achieves more, which is where we get all those bullcrap regulations from.  It’s an attempt to hammer down the US, and people in the Obama administration have admitted that they want to cripple the US and destroy what we have achieved here.

I don’t want more environmentalism, I want more drilling, as well as the pipeline from Canada, so that the cost of gas can go down, and the cost of living as well.  The environmental hazards I am concerned about are as follows:

    1) GMO’s

    2) Bees dying off.

Neither of which has anything to do with “Global Warming” even if it were real.

So my conclusion is that this guy was just trying to sabotauge the Republican party.

If the Republican party becomes too much like the Democrats they will never win another election again, because the liberals will keep voting for the Dems, but the conservatives will not turn out for the Republicans.

  • It’s also an error to say that all Christians reject Evolution in its entirety.

  • @blonde_apocalypse - I reject evolutionism, but I wish that our government would operate based on social Darwinism.  It would be so much better for the economy.

  • This is what happens when you allow the govt. to have its hand in social issues. To police morality is akin to policing what the hello I’m making for dinner. Ironically, it is the D party that is very keen and down with this. Did you know that folks on the subway shall now be recorded? Holy Moly! Talk about Big Brother. Gah! It’s like steppin into the book Brave New World or 1984. Sadly, I feel as though we’ve stepped there.

  • The republican party has already been hijacked. I think we are beyond elections changing anything. The Republican National Convention and number of executive orders has pretty much sealed that for me.

  • Really now that you like a government based on Social darwinism?I suppose you support the promotion of folks who are exceptional, hardworking and innovative?

The Jews have exceptional grades but they has been a defacto system to not permit too many Jews in higher education. In some ways Asians have exceptional grades and the haters will claim that they cheat a lot.
The Hard working trait has been given to immigrants from Latin America. Would you hesitate to hire a hard working immigrant? In addition there are a lot of hard working immigrants that have cut their labor prices, Would you hire folks because they get the job done cheaper?
Yes innovation involves getting around patents. The Chinese broke the DVD player patents and made DVD players a lot cheaper by circumventing some patents. Innovation sometimes require thinking out of the box.

  • @Kellsbella - It’s disgusting and disturbing, and let’s also not forget that he wants to deploy drones over our country.  It’s almost like the left is using 1984 as their instruction manual.

  • @mtngirlsouth - Maybe, anyways the chances are pretty good that Obama will fix things so that the Republicans will never win again.  At least, he will if he is a true party loyalist.  All he has to do is let in enough immigration from Mexico and the Islamic world and we are done for permanently.

  • @PPhilip - Your comment is essentially a non-statement.  Social Darwinism would involve nothing more than letting nature take it’s course without any artificial interference from government.  That means that the government does not give money or aid to anyone.  Without that our economy will grow and there will be a better chance for upward momentum.

And yes, the people who are most capable of succeeding should be allowed to do so without being disctiminated against or punshed with a heavy tax burden for their success.  This whole idea of penalizing people for their success and of lazy people being entitled to something they didn’t work for has to go.

  • We did it “their way” twice.  We ran moderates McCain and Romney.  They both got shellacked.

Let’s run a real conservative and treat ourselves to a landslide.

  • @PrisonerxOfxLove - Yea, what does the RNC have against putting up conservatives?

  • @Ambrosius_Augustus_Rex -Let nature take its course or let the powers that manipulate things continue to be in power?

So basically you do not want a FEMA like organization and think states are pretty capable by themselves despite hurricanes and natural disasters being very hurtful?
So your small government includes less money spent for military too?

  • The Republican Party will change. I think like the Democrats after 2000 and 2004, they’ll update their campaigning tactics and some of their policy positions. (Taxes on the wealthiest Americans and Immigration are a couple suggested by Conservative Talking Heads.)

I do agree with the gist of your entry, Evolution and Global Warming are a bit too inconcenquential (and in my view, a bit too partisan) to be realistic ground to yield.

  • I’m a pro-gay, pro-choice, evolutionist Republican.
Those super christian conservatives deserve that slap in the face for hijacking the GOP and bringing in all the morality bullshit.
    @Kellsbella
     - agreed

  • @PPhilip - What I said.

The only things I want government to do are provide military protection, interstate highways, and space exploration.  Everything else needs to go.

  • @Celestial_Teapot - Well they desperately need to change their campaign strategy, but I hope they don’t decide to become more liberal in any of their policies.  If they do that then they can forget about winning any elections, because they can never out-liberal the Democrats.  All they will do is push their traditional voting base into voting for a 3rd party, which might actually be a good thing.  I would be happy if the Republicans could be replaced by the Libertarian party.

    Agreed.

  • @AncoraImparo - Christian conservatives have always been a reliable voter base for the Republican party.  My point was that the intent of the author was not to help but to sabotauge the Republicans by suggesting that they officially adopt a position which the Democrats themselves have not, knowing full well that the majority of their constituency is not in line with that.  It’s not going to get any liberals to come over and vote Republican because liberals are socialists, but it will get more Christians and conservatives to stay home from voting.  Of course, I would still go out and vote for them, but we are already severely plagued with people on our side staying home as it is.  It’s ridiculous.
